The World University Games are coming to North Carolina after all. Not in 2027, but in 2029. The International University Sports Federation awarded the games to North Carolina on Tuesday while in Lake Placid, New York, for the 2023 Winter Games. North Carolina's bid is centered on a region stretching from Raleigh to Greensboro that includes 19 colleges and universities with 250,000 students. The World University Games Summer have only been held once previously in the United States, in 1993 in Buffalo, New York.
